Terrestrial Research on Ecosystems & World-wide Education & Broadcast || An Innovative Graduate Training Program
TerreWEB is a graduate student focused research group at UBC. TerreWEB provides fellowships, sponsors seminars, workshops and conferences and assists students with travel and internship opportunities.
TerreWEB Scholar: Graduate students and PDF’s receiving support through fellowships are TerreWEB scholars and are expected to participate in TerreWEB activities, including seminars and workshops.
Students should apply for TerreWEB fellowships before commencing their graduate program at UBC. Students who have already commenced with their program are generally not eligible to apply for TerreWEB fellowships.
TerreWEB Phd and MSc scholars must have a supervisor and a co-supervisor. One of them must be in a NSE (NSE=Natural Science and Engineering), the other in a non-NSE field. And at least one of the supervisors must be a TerreWEB applicant or co-applicant (S. Simard, M. Krzic, G. Bradfield, A. Christen, M. Johnson, C. Prescott, T. Satterfield, R. Talalay, A. Black, S. Aitken).
TerreWEB PDF scholars must have a TerreWEB applicant or co-applicant as supervisor (S. Simard, M. Krzic, G. Bradfield, A. Christen, M. Johnson, C. Prescott, T. Satterfield, R. Talalay, A. Black, S. Aitken) and a project adviser. One of them must be in a NSE-field, the other in a non-NSE field.
TerreWEB stipends are usually up to 17,300 CAD / year for Master students and 21,000 CAD / year for PhD students. Expenses for field work and research have to be covered by the supervisors. PDF’s are supported by TerreWEB up to 20,000 CAD / year. It is expected that supervisors pay at least another 20,000 CAD towards PDF’s salaries as well as associated PDF project costs.
TerreWEB Associate: Students with a TerreWEB supervisor are automatically considered TerreWEB associates, even if they do not receive any direct funding. TerreWEB associates receive priority registration at TerreWEB sponsored events, and may attend seminars and workshops.
TerreWEB is a graduate student trainings program, not a graduate program. If you are interested in joining TerreWEB, you will need to first be accepted by the TerreWEB applicant or one of the co-applicants, namely S. Simard, M. Krzic, G. Bradfield, A. Christen, M. Johnson, C. Prescott, T. Satterfield, R. Talalay, A. Black, and S. Aitken (listed here: TerreWEB supervisors) before you are eligible for TerreWEB support. Aside from that you will need to be accepted by UBC and have to follow UBC admission guidelines for your selected graduate program (http://www.grad.ubc.ca/). Make sure to check the separate application deadlines for your individual UBC graduate program.
TerreWEB is now accepting rolling applications from incoming students as long as funding lasts.
